Why isn't there any Fan-Made Yu-Gi-Oh games? Discussion & Thoughts

18/11/2020

All right this one has been on my mind a little bit when it comes to anime fangames online.

So I like fan games of any type and genre that I have seen on YouTube, social media or any game website out there that hosts games from many different game engines.

In general, I enjoy seeing the anime fan games or indie games from developers that put their own spin on it or remastering the game in awesome way through Unity or Unreal engine. I really like the Pokรฉmon fan games, since I see a lot of those everywhere and everybody puts a different name on it like fakemon, pokeman, rom-hack or Pokemon(Insert sci-fi title here) with art work showcased in the RPG Maker or GameMaker Studio game engines. I see some people improving or creating in-game adventure maps, pokedesk, trainers, Pokemon battles, moves and even trainer items, which is very cool to see how it was put together. However, the question I have is why isn't there any Yu-Gi-Oh fan games?!! I'm talking about Yu-Gi-Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh GX, Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's, spin-offs, movies, manga etc. Even other franchises such as Bakugan, Duel Masters, Beyblade, Medabots, Digimon, Bionicles and Chaotic to name a few, where it's little to no fanbase traction in the gaming or show discussion communities.

I am aware that some of these franchises are still creating mainline stories or games and merchandise for the fans who started watching from the very beginning and attracting the mid to late 2010's audience through reboots or remakes. I am mainly focusing on the peaks of popularity from the mid to late 2000s audience where majority of everyone saw it and had a piece of merchandise from the tv show, commercials or magazines!!! When Yu-Gi-Oh, GX and 5D's were popular in their primetime tv slots every week and had video games come out as well, I truly thought the           Yu-Gi-Oh franchise was way more popular and interesting than Pokemon, because of the story arcs were in-depth with a serious tone and the characters being interesting with a diverse cast coming through to face new challenges head on through dueling strategies and styles in certain situations with character development. However, today in the year 2020, the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise isn't really discussed that often online and it has communities that dissect the history of the game and story lore with other extras about the manga and anime, but the hype definitely is not the same as an whole with the general and fan audience, in my opinion.

Furthermore, for any anime or Yu-Gi-Oh fan game that is being made or going to happen, I don't really necessarily mind the art style, design, graphics, animations, story, gameplay, game engine, 3D, 2.5D or 2D etc. Ultimately. I just want to see how good the game is and how it can flow with the fandom giving feedback to the game and details being added in for improvements. A popular franchise such as Yu-Gi-Oh, should get enough attention and following from a fan game, animation, comic or app since majority of people grew up with the series in the 2000s. I mean, why not today with all the technology, tutorials, social media and resources for Indie developers or an Indie game studio to create an amazing   Yu-Gi-Oh fan game from any era with multiple play styles.

I know this one is kind of off the place a little bit and everything of that nature, but I really want to see some Yu-Gi-Oh fan games being created because I feel like someone or a team, can bring back the excitement, motivation, inspiration, possibly interest and attention into the Yu-Gi-Oh Fandom from all kinds of ways. I haven't the series much but, Yu-Gi-Oh hasn't been the same, in my opinion, ever since Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's ended in 2011. In addition, doing something like this can give everybody who knew and grew up with the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise can have a new game to play and watch, while bringing in new fans to the franchise of Yu-Gi-Oh through social media and watching the older anime.

Overall, these are my thoughts on Yu-Gi-Oh not having fan made games and we should believe in the heart of the cards that one draw would be the best one to finish the duel!!!(hahaha๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ) Anyway, if any Indie developer or Indie studio sees this or reads this and interested in making the game I will definitely retweet on my Twitter page and I might make a blog post about it as well. Lastly, what I said about Yu-Gi-Oh applies to the Bakugan, Duel Masters, Beyblade, Medabots, Digimon, Bionicles and Chaotic franchises and their fanbases to show some recognition. ๐Ÿ‘

P.S.: An example of fan-made Yu-Gi-Oh games that can be remastered or remade by fans or indie developers, is the Yu-Gi-Oh GX/5D's Tag Force Series that was made mainly for the PSP handheld devices. The PS2 game called Yu-Gi-Oh:The Duelists of the Roses and the Power of Chaos series is another way to get some ideas and concepts down for a fan project or indie game. Thanks!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you all for reading and hearing me out, and I'll see you all in the next one!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

In addition, this post was also made in help by a tool called Spread, which is a content repurposing tool that can turn audio uploads into blog post!! The tool Spread was made by SpreadSoftware and you check them out on Twitter right here. I was a beta tester for Spread repurposing tool and this blog post is NOT sponsored and all these opinions are my own and original.
